2014 Walk to Cure Arthritis - Dane County
Saturday, May 3, 2014, Vilas Park
|The Walk to Cure Arthritis raises funds and awareness to fight the nation's leading cause of disability. We aren't just helping the millions of people who live with arthritis pain, we're funding research that's getting us closer to a cure.|
At the Event
The event features a three-mile and one-mile course, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family. Let's raise funds to find a cure for arthritis, then come together to support each other and walk!
VIP & Team Tailgate
Individuals who raise $500 or more will be eligible for the VIP area. Teams who collectively raise $2000 or more will be eligible for the Team Tailgate. These top fundraisers will receive the VIP treatment with a special space designated for them and some special treats to celebrate before and after the walk.
Meet Our Honoree
Amanda Ramer has been living with rheumatoid arthritis for the past 13 years. Amanda’s story began fresh out of high school with high aspirations on becoming a Pediatric nurse. For a year she ignored some of the early systems—such as fatigue and red, swollen fingers—and chalked it up to her strenuous study schedule. The turning point for Amanda happened when her legs gave out trying to cross a road while out with some friends. That night marked the beginning of a long journey of medical visits, blood draws, x-rays, CT scans, physical therapy and numerous medications in an attempt to control this debilitating disease.
Amanda is fighting for a cure, not only for herself, but for her family and the millions of others living with arthritis. “Most people believe the only person who suffers is the person living with the disease,” said Amanda. “That is just not the case. I see the pain on my husband’s and son’s faces every day that I am unable to participate in daily activities. They are the ones who have to see me struggle with the daily pain and feel powerless to help.” Amanda and her husband, Shawn, started Team Awesome in 2012. “We wanted to help make a difference and to help raise awareness that arthritis can affect anyone at any age.”
Join Amanda and Team Awesome at the Walk to Cure Arthritis to help find a cure for this debilitating disease.
